๐ง What Hogwarts House Am I? Quiz
The "What Hogwarts house am I?" quiz sorts you into Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw or Slytherin using 10 lore-based choices โ the Sorting Hat stalling, a boggart in the wardrobe, the Mirror of Erised. Takes about two minutes, no account needed.
How the quiz works
You answer 10 questions drawn from Hogwarts situations โ the Sorting Hat stalling on your head, a boggart stepping out of the wardrobe, the Mirror of Erised, the three weeks before O.W.L.s. Every answer adds points to one of the four houses, and the house with the highest total at the end is your result.
The questions are deliberately about behaviour rather than aesthetics. Nobody is asked to pick a favourite colour, a wand wood or a Patronus. You are asked what you would actually do when a first-year is crying in a corridor after curfew, what you want the Room of Requirement to contain, and what line you want printed under your name on a Chocolate Frog card. Answer as the person you are on a normal Tuesday, not the person you would like the Hat to see โ flattering answers reliably produce a house you do not recognise.
What each house means
Four houses, four results, no invented extras. Every one is reachable: each question offers a genuine route into all four.
| Result | Core traits | Element | Decided by |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gryffindor ๐ฆ | Bravery, nerve, chivalry | Fire | Acting before the fear passes |
| Hufflepuff ๐ฆก | Loyalty, patience, fairness | Earth | Staying when it stops being fun |
| Ravenclaw ๐ฆ | Wit, curiosity, wisdom | Air | Needing to understand before you move |
| Slytherin ๐ | Ambition, cunning, resourcefulness | Water | Playing the long game on purpose |
If your top two houses finish a point or two apart, that is worth knowing in itself โ it means the scenarios pulled you in two directions rather than one, and the label you get is the narrower of two true answers.
Is this sorting quiz accurate?
Honestly: it measures self-reported preference against a fictional four-trait model, and that is all it can do. Your mood, the wording of a question and how generous you are feeling about yourself all move the result. Retake it in a month and there is a real chance you land somewhere else โ that is not a bug in the quiz, it is what personality self-report does.
There is also a canon argument against treating any sorting result as final. The Hat weighs your choice: it told Harry he would do well in Slytherin, and put him in Gryffindor because he asked it not to. So if your result feels wrong, that reaction is information. The house you argue for is usually the house you belong to. Treat this as entertainment and a good excuse to argue with your friends โ not a diagnosis, and not a verdict on who you are.

Frequently asked questions
How many questions is this Hogwarts house quiz?
Ten, and it takes about two minutes. That is deliberately between the 5-question fluff quizzes and the long ones people abandon halfway โ enough scenarios to be worth trusting, short enough to actually finish.
Is the official Pottermore sorting quiz more accurate?
It is more official, not more accurate. The Wizarding World Sorting Experience carries J.K. Rowling's name and canon weight, but it requires an account and publishes no methodology. Both quizzes score self-reported preferences โ neither can read you.
Can you be in two Hogwarts houses?
Not in canon โ the Hat gives one house, and fan terms like Slytherclaw are affectionate invention rather than lore. Plenty of people genuinely sit on a line, though. If your top two scores finish within a point or two here, that is what a borderline looks like.
Why did I get a different house this time?
Because sorting quizzes measure how you are answering today. A close score between two houses flips easily with mood, question wording, or how honest you are being about yourself. If it flips every time, you are borderline between those two โ not indecisive.
What is the rarest Hogwarts house?
There is no canon head count, so nobody can honestly name one. In quiz results Hufflepuff and Slytherin tend to be chosen least โ Hufflepuff because it is undersold, Slytherin because people avoid answering ambitiously about themselves. Both are more common than results suggest.
